Guyanese Prisoners Receive Medical Help

Georgetown, Guyana: Prison Fellowship International (PFI) partnered with Christian Medical Dental Associates (CMDA) to treat some 800 prison inmates, their families, police officers and their relatives from January 26 to February 03 when 17 medical practitioners visited Guyana. Inmates from the Timehri, Lusignan, New Amsterdam and Mazaruni jails were treated for skin diseases, stomach aches and tuberculosis. The visiting doctors also performed dental extractions, ultra sound tests and conducted a reading glass clinic and minor surgical procedures. This is the second visit to Guyana in which PFI and CMDA have partnered. During January 2007 a similar ministry was carried out at the Georgetown and Berbice Prisons.

Team leader Dr. Ron Brown expressed appreciation for the able assistance of local medical professionals. Dr. Brown also affirmed his expectation that this kind of help given persons incarcerated in Guyana will continue.

Accompanying Dr. Brown on this trip were Bob Agnew (general and thoracic surgery), Donald DeCarlo and Rafik Hanna (emergency medicine), Jeff Ettinger (internal medicine), Joyce Frazier, Debbie Mc Cann, Ed McCarthy, Bill Ogle and Donna Walker (logistics), Tom Frazier and Wendy Fung (pharmacists), Linda Hippenhammer (radiologist), Kelly Johnston and Jacquie Nedimyer (registered nurses), Diane Martin (medical technician) and Lou Valbracht (psychiatry/Aerospace medicine).
